Artistic Statement

This film is a deliberation on a certain person, place, and time. It is a contemplative act ultimately meant to provide nourishment in the three-way collaboration between me the filmmaker, the leading man, and audience. Let’s take a slow look. Let’s gaze out into the expanse of the ocean and rock buoyantly on the salt water.

The Rockaways seem like a small town. Isolated despite being part of a major metropolitan area. Locals in tune with the tides while tourists from the city come and go. There is a feeling of carnival in the summer and prison in the winter.

In this atypical part of New York Lou Harris takes his civic duty seriously while his methods and approach are casual. I hope that is reflected in the content and style of this film.
